Coffee Cup Materials and Tasting: What to Compare

Coffee Cup Materials and Tasting: What to Compare

Compare coffee cups as complete objects: material, glaze or lining, rim shape, capacity and serving conditions all form part of the drinking experience. A material name alone is not evidence that a cup will improve flavour.

Start with the manufacturer’s specifications

  • Check the actual material and any glaze, lining or decorative finish.
  • Match the listed capacity and shape to your drink.
  • Follow the cleaning instructions for that product; these may differ between ordinary glaze, lacquer and precious-metal decoration.

Understand CCCLAY’s design approach

CCCLAY porcelain is made from an exclusive blend of premium kaolin sourced from Hunan, Jiangxi and Guangdong, China. The blend is formulated to meet the functional requirements of each cup design.

The porcelain body and glazes made from natural mineral raw materials are fired at 1,220°C or higher, forming a durable glazed surface with a glossy or matte finish.

Our cup geometry and glazes are developed with sensory experience in mind. These design aims are not a guarantee that every taster or every beverage will respond in the same way.

Make your own comparison

  • Use the same brewed coffee and keep the serving conditions as consistent as practical.
  • Record the cup, recipe and your observations rather than assigning a result to material alone.
  • Explore our Tilt Cups to compare thick and thin sipping sides within one cup design.
